FIRST MOTHERBOARD FOR AMD ATHLON 1GHZ
ASUS announced the start of shipment of ASUS K7V
motherboard.
The K7V is the first motherboard to support the
recently released 1GHz (1,000MHz) AMD Athlon.
This announcement came just four days after AMD
officially announced the commencement of shipments
of the processors, which has been hailed as an
industry milestone.
The K7V is being touted as the successor to the
highly successful K7M Athlon motherboard.
With ASUS ASIC plus VIA Apollo KX133, and a two-chip
set consisting of VT8371 North Bridge controller
and VT82C686A South Bridge controller chipset, this
brings the AMD AthlonTM processor platform to
a higher level of performance for desktop PC's.
ASUS has also released another member for the
K7V family, the K7V-RM, which boasts most of the
features of the K7V in a smaller microATX form
factor, while K7V will be using an ATX form factor.
