MICROSOFT ENTERS VIDEO GAME BATTLE WITH X-BOX
Microsoft headed into the living room battle
zone unveiling the "X-box" video game console
with which it will challenge market leaders
Sony and Nintendo.
"The X-box will be a huge milestone for Microsoft
and the entire game industry," Bill Gates said.
It did not display an actual model of the machine,
but showed various graphics illustrating its
capabilities.
Microsoft will make its entry into the worldwide
video game market in autumn 2001, vying with
Nintendo's new 128-bit "Dolphin" game machine and
Sony's "PlayStation2" system.
The X-box has a 600-MHz processor, 64 megabytes
of RAM, and an advanced 3-D graphics chip.
It will be able to play DVD's and connect to the
Internet, similar to the PlayStation2.
The X-box will have more than three times the
graphics performance of the latest game consoles,
which will offer game enthusiasts an incredible
experience.
Microsoft has said the device will not hit the
market until the autumn of 2001.
